Ark of the Covenant
The first mention of the Ark is in Exodus 25:10-22 when God gave Moses the dimensions and specifications to build the Ark. The Ark of Covenant was to me constructed out of acacia wood: 2.5 cubits long, 1.5 cubits wide, and 1.5 cubits (about 45” long, 27” wide, and 27” high); overlaid with pure gold inside and out; with gold moldings, and rings on the sides to insert poles to carry it. It also has a gold cover topped with 2 cherubim facing each other with their wings spread upwards covering the Ark. It contains the Covenant tablets, Aaron’s rod and a golden urn containing manna (Hebrews 9:4). The Ark acted as the invisible presence of God from the time of Moses until its disappearance 4 centuries or more later. Other key events recorded in the Bible regarding the Ark are recorded in: Exodus 25:1-22, 37:1-6; Joshua 4:1-9, 6:4-20, 7:6-9; 1 Samuel 3:3-4:3.
